A friend of mine had told me about a show that was happening on October 21st 2012 at the Elks Lodge in Ludlow, Ma. I wasn’t really sure what to expect because normally the crowd that shows up there is for cruise nights in the summer on Tuesdays. They are more likely to be like Tune by Tuna or the Orange Dragstrip Reunion type rather than, let’s say, Wekfest. A little while later I heard that this might be run by some Volkswagen kids. I thought to myself, this could get interesting. I showed up a little after 9 a.m. when it was scheduled to start and the place just filled up from there. I got a goody bag with a little green piece of paper to enter for awards later and entrance into the show for a donation.
If you’ve ever been to the Elks Lodge, it’s a pretty big place. It’s got a decent amount of parking next to the “Lodge” then a sprawling field in the back, as well as a pavilion that can fit quite a few people. It was ALL full as it neared the afternoon. There weren’t just VW’s or even just German cars. It was a whole lot of different cars. Drift Faction and a group called Bosstown showed up to represent the drift scene. It went from stanced to bagged to whatever anyone brought. I even brought my car this time. Haha.
There was all sorts of interesting stuff going on. Burgers, dogs and beer at the pavilion (Until they ran out of food. Haha.), people riding around stanced bikes, which I later found out they were raffling off, music was going on in the background and later on the awards ceremony for various categories.
Some of the static cars look like it was a bit scary getting on the grass, quite a lot of scraping it might seem. One of the 240’s even busted their front bumper. Dedication.
Overall it was a great event and I hope to see it happen next year, even though someone decided it was best to do something stupid as they left. (Burnout.) I definitely enjoyed talking to everyone that I did.
Check out the rest of the pictures here and some more shots of Drift Faction after the meet. Also a shout out to Drift Faction, Bosstown, the friend who told me about the meet, everyone I got to meet and talk to, and the people that made Field Werks possible!
